Initiated in 1992, the Association supports its members' wood supply, financing, marketing, and representational needs.
The VIAWP represents 57 businesses employing more than 600 workers in communities from Victoria to Port McNeill and Parksville to Port Alberni. Our diverse membership includes specialty primary breakdown mills that turn logs into high grade lumber and remanufacturers that take rough lumber and size and shape it into remanufactured or value-added products. We also have associate members who supply equipment, services, and technical expertise.

By producing value-added products and doing more with less, our members maximize the value of the 500,000 cubic metres of wood they process annually. We add value by sawing to grade and upgrading or further processing and remanufacturing lumber. Our products include shakes and shingles, lumber, posts and beams, decking, siding, fencing, pallets, outdoor furniture, hot tubs, musical instrument components, mouldings, flooring and paneling, door and windows, oars and paddles, and glued beams and joists.

Vancouver Island's independent wood processing sector faces many challenges. These include securing adequate quantity and quality of fibre, accessing markets, and having an effective voice in development of government policy and programs. By working together on Vancouver Island and with other independent wood processing associations in B.C. we can address these issues and develop the kind of services and programs our sector needs.
In these pages you will find more information about the VIAWP, its projects, events, and resources on issues related to the independent wood processing sector. If you are interested in our organization, please check out our membership information. Remember, "Together we can make a difference."
